Four Nigerians in the persons of Oladipupo Ajiroba, Nkechikwu Azinge, Kelvin Ogholi and Isaiah Owolabi are all considered to be exceptional young people. Tomorrow they will be honored by Queen Elizabeth at the inaugural Queens Young Leaders Awards at Buckingham Palace.
The Awards are presented to people from across The Commonwealth between the ages of 18 to 29 who have made a positive difference, demonstrated leadership and transformed lives for the greater good.
MR. OLADIPUPO AJIROBA
As a child he suffered from bronchitis and was very much aware of pollution. He started and set up the Environmental Advocacy and Management Initiative. His organisation has engaged over 10,000 individuals in campaigns and workshops.
MS. NKECHIKWU AZINGE
She grew up with family members who suffered from sickle cell anemia. After witnessing first hand all the challenges the disorder caused, she decided to start and set up the Sickle Cell Aid Foundation.
Her organisation encourages people to get tested for their haemoglobin genotype and has set up clubs in schools to educate and inform.
MR. KELVIN OGHOLI
After witnessing his own Father and other Livestock Farmers struggle to pay for feed, he co-founded UNFIRE. His enterprise has discovered a way to produce poultry feeds from organic wastes like mango seeds and seaweeds. As a direct consequence of Kelvin's efforts, it now costs half the price of normal feed and has assisted 70 Farmers to date.
MR. ISAIAH OWOLABI
He co-founded the HACEY Health Initiative which assists disadvantaged women and children in leading and pursuing healthy lives. In 2012, HACEY launched "Hands Up For Her" - an organisation that promotes the rights of African girls.
