Earlier today in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia, the President of the International Olympic Committee Mr. Thomas Bach, announced that Beijing, China will stage the 2022 Winter Olympics. This win for China makes Beijing the first city to host the both summer and winter games in a century.

Another favorite Almaty, Kazakhstan had 40 votes but she was eventually edged out by Beijing's final tally of 44. The host city's infrastructure and destination as a positive tourist attraction certainly factored heavily in the outcome. No doubt former Houston Rocket, towering Mr. Yao Ming supported his country to the hilt by participating in the clinching Presentation. Additionally the fact that infrastructure from the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics is still in place was also a major booster in the decision making process.

Apparently there were whispering voices referencing China's current human rights record...we can only assume all words deemed unsuitable for the occasion were swiftly brushed aside and swept under the red carpet. The flag must keep flying...don't you just love those immaculate gold stars?
