NEWS - Helmut Schmidt Is Laid To Rest

Helmut Schmidt, Chancellor of West Germany from 1974 to 1982 was given a state funeral today in his home town of Hamburg. The ceremony took place at St. Michael's Church in the midst of 1,800 invited guests from across the world including former French President Valery Giscard d'Estaing, former Italian President Giorgio Napolitano , U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. 

Schmidt, who died on November 10th, was cremated and and buried in the family tomb in a private ceremony. He was 96 years old.
