NEWS - Chiwetel Ejiofor To Be Honored At British Independent Film Awards

Chiwetel Ejiofor

Chiwetel Ejiofor will be honored at the Moet's British Independent Film Awards for his exceptional service to cinema. The actor will be given the Richard Harris Award for his service to the United Kingdom and the world. 

The award was created in 2002 after the death of actor, Richard Harris. His son, Jared Harris said "I'm so happy this award is going to Chiwetel. Although the recipients of this award have all been embraced by the establishment, they all came from outside, fought their way in on the strength of their talent, claimed their place and changed the status quo. A journey which describes Chiwetel's career perfectly. His talent is immense, it has brought him world wide recognition and he is in his prime! I hope this award inspires British film makers to take advantage of him and build films around his talent."

Past honorees of the Richard Harris Award include Jim Broadbent, Bob Hoskins, John Hurt, Emma Thompson and Julie Walters. 

The BIFA will hold on December 6th.

In the meantime, Chiwetel Ejiofor's new release Secrets In Their Eyes with Nicole Kidman and Julia Roberts is playing in cinemas worldwide. Currently he is filming Marvel's Doctor Strange.
