A Plastic Bottle House In Progress

The Development Association For Renewable Energies (DARE) is based in Kaduna, Nigeria. Together with the London-based Africa Community Trust, their efforts towards a resolution for the for the greater good seems to be doing wonders.

We all know that homelessness is a world-wide problem however in Nigeria, plastic bottles homes have alleviated cries for shelter. How so? Incredibly sand-filled plastic bottles are held together with mud and cement, apparently this combination of compacted sand is 20 times stronger than brick. The houses are powered by solar panels and re-cycled methane gas from animal and human waste.

Upon completion, the bottle-built homes are earthquake resistant, fire-proof and bullet-proof. The colorful homes also maintain a moderate indoor temperature all year round.

These plastic bottle homes are good for the environment, they prevent plastic bottles from ending up in a landfill, they are good for humans, animals and the entire eco-system. Everybody wins. Everything wins.
