Ecuadorians March In Protest
Over the past 48 hours, the National Assembly passed a constitutional amendment to lift Ecuador's presidential term limits. There were violent clashes and protests by Ecuadorians who see this move as an unprecedented hold on power by President Rafael Correa. Despite the fact that Correa's current term ends in 2017, he has declared that he does not intend to run. However this new constitutional amendment permits Correa to run for office indefinitely at the start of 2021.
There are 15 new amendments in total some of which can remove public employee collective bargaining, place the military in charge of domestic security and declare communications a public service.
