Misty Copeland is now the very first African-American female Principal Ballet Dancer in the 75-year history of the American Ballet Theater Company. She has been with the company for 14 years, 8 of which has been spent as the Soloist.
32 year old Ms. Copeland has often been very outspoken about the discrimination she has faced and was very determined to break down all barriers. In her memoir Life in Motion: An Unlikely Ballerina which was released last year, she wrote "my fears are that it could be another two decades before another black woman is in the position that I hold with an elite ballet company.....if I don't rise to principal, people will think I have failed them."

ReplyDeleteGood job but she shouldn't have to think she failed if she didn't make principal. This is way too much stress and pressure.
