POLITICS - How Did Sahara Reporters Get The Photocopy Of Bukola Saraki's Passport?

Earlier on today, Sahara Reporters posted copies of certain documents relating to the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, on its Facebook page. Most of you know by now that Mr. Omoyele Sowore, Founder of the Online News Agency also posted a photocopy of Dr. Saraki's British passport alleging:  Bukola Saraki: The President of the Nigerian Senate Is Not Even A Nigerian.

Facebook administrators instantly removed the photocopy of the aforementioned passport with, what I should imagine was a stern caution to follow the rules or have that their page deleted. Mr. Omoyele Sowore subsequently griped his indignation below seemingly having difficulty comprehending Facebook's reaction.

The fact is Dr. Saraki's was born in London and therefore has every right to carry a British passport in addition to his Nigerian one. He is classified as Bi-National and is therefore privileged to carry two passports if he wishes to do so. One can discern from the photo that the passport is good for ten years and is set to expire July 2016. No doubt the British Embassy has issued the Senate President a new one having cancelled the compromised original.

Therein lies the worrisome quandary. How did Sahara Reporters obtain a photocopy of what appears to be a current passport belonging to the Nigerian Senate President? An expired copy is of equal effect as possession of such would still call into question the over enthusiastic investigative techniques, strategies and tactics the Online News Agency appears to employ.

A passport - current or expired, is a highly confidential document. Breaches of trust and security can not go unchecked and this particular incident must serve as a reality check and light bulb moment. Within and without, it is incumbent upon all holders of Nigerian public to office overhaul and vet their security teams on a constant basis.

  3. SR calls it investigative journalism. A mole gave it to them. SR goes to the extremes when chasing stories, sometimes it backfires and makes them look bad. What's crazy is that Sowore has an issue with facebook checking their thievery! I wonder how he would feel if somebody posted a copy of his own passport on the world wide web. SMDH.
