As proposed by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG), the Global Citizen Music Festival was started as part of many worldwide attempts to end extreme poverty by 2030. The Festival which commenced in 2012 is a free ticketed event which encourages charitable contributions. Coldplay's Chris Martin is the present Creative Director.

A special global goal is the education of girls. Almost 62 million girls are denied the right to a good education.  #62MillionGirls

It's slogan is:  "TAKE ACTION | EARN TICKETS | SEE IMPACT Launch the global goals and join the movement to end extreme poverty"
