First Litter of Puppies Born In Vitro
The five beagles and two bockers (beagle cocker spaniel mixes) are the first puppies ever born in vitro. This is the first time that the IVF technique has succeeded in dogs. Researchers at Cornell, America's private Ivy League Research University, placed 19 eggs into a host dog, the technique was successful and all the puppies were born by cesarean section.
This scientific breakthrough technique was described in a paper published yesterday in Plos One.
