The Daily Post of Nigeria is reporting that the Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, in Ore, Ondo State, Mr Kehinde Dahunsi has disclosed that ahead of the enforcement of the Speed Limiter Device, SLD, in April, the Commission has begun a sensitization campaign for commercial drivers on the need for installation of the device.
Mr. Dahunsi made this disclosure while addressing Newsmen on Thursday at Ore, adding that the awareness programme had been taken to different motor parks and eateries in Ore and its surrounding environment.
The Speed Limiter Device which is expected to cut down the rate of road traffic crashes and the resultant loss of lives on the nation’s highways, is a device installed on vehicles to limit speed to a prescribed level, making further acceleration unresponsive.
According to the Commander, “Speeding and reckless driving are major causes of road crashes and this is why the FRSC introduced the Speed Limiter Device to reduce speed on the highways.
“We are commencing the enforcement by April, especially with commercial vehicles, and that is why we are starting with the sensitization with them, first,” Mr. Dahunsi added.
While appealing to commercial drivers to obtain the device from accredited vendors, Mr. Dahunsi warned that offenders would not be spared when the enforcement begins.
