Yesterday, 20th February Sir Sidney Poitier celebrated his 89th birthday. The Actor, Director, Producer, Author and Diplomat is the very first Bahamian and very first African American to win the Academy Award for Best Actor.
At 89, Sir Sidney Poitier is now the oldest surviving Actor to win the Academy Award.
Last week Sunday at the BAFTA's he was awarded the Fellowship for his services to the film industry.
Sir Sidney Poitier served concurrently as Ambassador Bahamas to Japan (2002-2007) and UNESCO.
