In 2012, Superbowl 46 was between the Patriots and the New York Giants. The Vince Lombardi Trophy went to the latter. Aaron played well and was cheered for his efforts.
Fast forward to 2015, Aaron is now on trial for allegedly committing the unspeakable against his fellow man. Apart from two Mothers and other parties, two full-blooded Sisters have been intricately and intrinsically woven into this disturbing fabric. The insane dynamic is that one sibling was the fiance of the late victim while the other is the fiance of the accused. Needless to say, relationships and destinies have been altered forever. This unfortunate state of affairs reminds me of a Nigerian expression: "if we have been to court we can never be friends." The logic being that friends and family should not have to attend court to hash out disagreements. This is very different and unusual. When the final verdict is handed down, how do these two beautiful and seemingly intelligent siblings proceed as family?
.
On Sunday, 1st February 2015, Mr. Aaron Hernandez was supposed to be the participating Patriot savoring Superbowl victory with his team mates. Tom Brady, Malcolm Butler, Rob Gronkowski .... He ought to have been present at the celebratory home-coming parade to further cement Boston-strong, Boston-pride. But alas, he was no where to be seen; he along with his good destiny were missing from the momentous occasion.
One is innocent until proven guilty. For the record and through it all, Mr. Aaron Hernandez has emphatically maintained his innocence. In the meantime, he has lost his enviable lifestyle, lucrative salary and endorsements while his name and likeness have been obliterated from all sports memorabilia, electronic games, clothing and his alumni facilities at University of Florida.
Jeremiah 29 v11 says "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end." So let us ponder for an introspective moment: how on God's given earth did this gifted-with-so-much-to-live-for Patriot arrive at his present location? Aaagh! Somebody.....anybody....?
