The Hewitt Triplets
Fraternal triplets are normal. Rare identical triplets occur when the egg divides into three. The Hewitt triplets who were born earlier this month are extremely unique simply because no fertility treatments were used in their conception. Medical Director, Dr. Victor Khouzami, said he has never witnessed such a birth in his three decades of practice - their welcome arrival is a first for the Women's and Infants Services at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center.
According to the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, only approximately 10% of triplets are identical. The Hewitt Triplets are the fourth rare set born this year in the United States, other identical triplets were born in Washington, Montana and New York.
Their Mother, Kristen confessed that the hospital technician was incredibly quiet after completing her ultrasound. To break the silence, Father, Tom jokingly asked if there was more than one in there!
