The PNAS Journal has reported that United States Scientists have bred a genetically modified mosquito that can resist malaria infection.

The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) Journal says they have offered a new way of preventing the mosquitoes from spreading malaria to human beings. The Scientists put a new resistance gene into the mosquito's DNA using a gene editing system called Crispr. Once the genetically modified mosquito mated, their offspring had inherited the same resistance. Therefore if the mosquitoes bit humans, they would not be able to pass on the malaria-causing parasite. The DNA coded with parasite-combating antibodies was 100% inherited across generations.
