Google Uganda
In order to broaden internet access and make it more affordable, Google has launched its very first WiFi Network in Kampala, Uganda - the service is live in 120 locations in the capital. Internet Service Providers will then be able to charge it's own customers for access. It is anticipated that local telecom companies will be able to offer cheaper and faster access.
Critics have expressed doubts with this project as they would have preferred it if Google had made WiFi available in the rural areas where internet access is extremely limited. Google has laid 500 miles of cable in Uganda to establish a fiber optic network.
Google has plans to extend this service to the Ghanaian cities of Accra, Tema and Kumasi.
