POLITICS - Jega Completes INEC Chairmanship Tenure

Professor Attahiru Jega

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, officially stepped down handing leadership over to Ambassador Mohammad, the Commission's National Commissioner.

During the hotly contested Nigerian March/April 2015 Elections, Professor Jega sought to ensure accuracy regardless of the harsh challenges and political interference he confronted. As Chairman since 2010, INEC made major strides in Nigeria's democratic growth. Professor Jega introduced the Permanent Voters Card and Electronic Card Readers which signed, sealed and delivered credible election outcomes in 2011 and 2015.

Professor Jega has been widely applauded and hailed for his principled determination to usher in credible and peaceful democracy to Nigeria. He will be returning to academia as the Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University.
