Three Marine Corps Veterans - Mike East, Larry Morris and Jim Tracy - upon the instructions of President Dwight Eisenhower, took down the U.S. Flag in Cuba 54 years ago. Relations between the two nations had deteriorated beyond repair and it was the duty of these gentlemen to perform the given task in January 1961.
In an incredible twist of history, the retired gentlemen: Corporal F.W. Mike East, Lance Corporal Larry Morris and Master Gunnery Sgt. Jim Tracy, returned to Havana, Cuba with Secretary of State John Kerry to witness and participate in the raising of the flag ceremony today.
Yesterday John Kerry said on twitter: "These marines have an amazing story. Proud they'll join me for @USEmCuba re-opening tomorrow."
