The Heisman Trophy via Twitter
Derrick Henry
University of Alabama's Derrick Henry is the 81st Heisman Trophy Winner.
The 21 year old Running Back was born to teenage parents in Yulee, just outside of Jacksonville, Florida. His grandmother, Gladys Henry, who helped to raise him with good values is currently in hospital battling respiratory and heart problems. Derrick said that since she shared his childhood dream of winning the Heisman Trophy one day, he knew she was with him in spirit. After receiving the Trophy and as he stood on the podium, greeting Grandma and demonstrating abundant appreciation for all she has done for him, he said: "I love you so much."
Henry also spoke of his former Alabama team mate, 20 year old Altee Tenpenny, who died in a car crash a couple of months ago. He thoughtfully remembered his friend in his acceptance speech.
The Alabama Crimson Tide Junior Running Back has not yet revealed his forthcoming plans but it is most likely that he will enter the NFL after this season.
