Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka

Yesterday when Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka visited Mr. Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture, he categorically asked the Federal Government to organize an emergency conference where experts will brainstorm afforded solutions to rectify Nigeria's economy.

"The consequences of past mis-governance in other words, is what we are undergoing right now, but at the same time, we must rely n our objective economic exploit to tell the government when it is going wrong ... When it is taking certain measures which might just compound the problem and in the end make people the ultimate victims ... I agree with those who say the economy is bad (it is obvious) and I think that the President should call an emergency economic conference in which experts will be invited (such as) consumers, producers, labor union, university experts, professors and others. I think we need a rescue operation, bringing as many heads together and plotting the way forward."

While emphasizing the need for the Government to adhere to her stance on corruption, the Nobel Laureate said it is important to pursue the anti-corruption agenda within the confines of the legal frameworks."
