Adam Johnson, the former Sunderland Soccer Player was sentenced at the Bradford Crown Court to six years in jail.

To get a true view of the state of the Court as sentencing was about to be declared, Josh Halliday shared the following Tweets on social media as matters unfolded in Court. Josh Halliday is the North of England Correspondent, The Guardian.

Adam Johnson has been stripped of his England caps and "lost a lucrative career he will never be able to retrieve" - Orlando Pownall, QC.

Johnson's QC asks judge to "temper justice with mercy". Footballer is not a "predatory paedophile" but his offence was an "aberration" ... "He is going to have to rebuild his life ... a life that will be very different to the one he has enjoyed hitherto."

Johnson's parents, Dave and Sonia, have written a letter to the Judge, court hears.

Adam Johnson to be sentenced in 20/30 minutes. He's remanded in custody while Judge decides his fate.

Everyone back in court for Adam Johnson sentencing. He's in dock, just smiled and nodded at a friend in public gallery.

Judge Jonathan Rose back in court for Adam Johnson sentencing.

Judge orders Johnson to stand as he begins sentencing.

Johnson stood with his hands folded in front of him in the dock as judge Jonathan Rose addresses him.

"She had only just turned 15 when you began to groom her...because you found her sexually attractive even though you knew her to be just 15."

Judge says Johnson googled 'age of consent" because he wanted to know when it would be legal "to engage in sexual intercourse" with the girl.

Judge says Johnson "had every opportunity" to enter guilty pleas but didn't as a consequence of his victim "endured a year of abuse."

Judge says Johnson is entitled to no more than a 10% reduction in his sentence because of his late guilty pleas to two child sex offences.

"All of this is entirely your own responsibility and fault," the Judge tells Johnson as he gears up to sentence him.

Judge now outlining "severe psychological harm" on Johnson's victim.

"Your standing and your offending are the only reason this child has suffered abuse." Judge tells Johnson.

Johnson's victim will require "ongoing therapeutic interventions," Judge says: "I have no doubt I should take this inked on an to account."

Judge: "[AJ] embarked on an extensive social life involving sexual activity on a very frequent basis with a number of  different partners."

All professionals who examined Johnson said he needs some sort of therapy or support, the Judge says.

Starting point for Adam Johnson's jail sentence will be five years, Judge says. Full sentence to come.

BREAKING: Adam Johnson jailed for SIX years for child sex offences.

No reaction from Johnson in the dock as he's jailed for six years. No emotion either from his Mother or Father.

Johnson ordered to pay 50,000 British Pounds of prosecution's 67,132 British Pounds costs - that's five weeks wages before he was sacked.

Actually he was on 60,000 British Pounds a week - so his 50,000 British Pounds costs charge is less than a month's pay on his former salary.

  2. Some teenagers look much older than their ages. I don't think the girl was as innocent as they are making her out to be. Why was she hanging around him, what exactly did she want? She too knew what she was doing. They both did.
