While Prince is most known for residing at Paisley Park, Minneapolis is his hometown. Now one of his childhood homes in North Minneapolis is up for historic designation by the city.
In the mid-1970s, Prince grew up in a house on Russell Avenue. The Minneapolis Heritage Preservation Commission nominated several homes as part of creating an historic district in the neighborhood, and Prince's just happened to be one of them.
"The establishment of districts helps to install community pride and also foster greater interest in preservation of the properties themselves," Constance Vork, with the Minneapolis Heritage Preservation Commission, said.
The city of Minneapolis will determine later this year if Prince's childhood home will be part of the historic district.

This is a good thing, I hope the house is historically designated to forever remember Prince Rogers Nelson, the boy from the block. Minneapolitans are very proud of their son.
ReplyDeleteI hear Paisley Park's going to be a Museum. Prince also owned other properties so they'll probably do tours and make plenty of money for Minnesota. Although he's no more, at least the life and times of Prince will be of great historical benefit Minnesota and the USA. Well done to Prince!
