2nd Half NBA Season - Anybody Excited?

As we all look forward to the second half of this great NBA season this is the time where teams either keep up the good run of basketball they played in the first half of the season or somewhere along the way lose their focus and come April 15th, they end up being on the outside looking in.

The powerful Western Conference is known for having a good 9th and 10th seed wishing they were in the Eastern Conference. Right now the San Antonio Spurs hold the 7th seed at (34-19), Phoenix Suns hold the 8th seed at (29-25), Oklahoma City Thunder hold the 9th at (28-25) and the New Orleans Pelicans hold the 10th at (27-26). They are all above .500 which is what you want at the halfway point of the season. Its way too early to tell what could happen but we all know the San Antonio Spurs will hold that 7th spot or if anything only move up in the standings.

For the past couple of weeks everybody has been wondering if the OKC Thunder will make the playoffs because of an up and down season due to injuries. Entering the All Star break Phoenix has lost 4 out of their last 5 which is not the note that you want to end on. Last year they held that 8th seed for most of the season but ended up missing the playoff by ONE GAME.

When this NBA season started, I don't think anybody thought that an OKC team would be in the present position that they are in.  At the start of every new season this team is always the favorite to come out of the Western Conference and probably win the finals. But right now they are a 9th seed at the midway point of the season. That sounds crazy.

All this demonstrates the beauty of the sport and sports in general. Nobody knows what could happen and things don't always go as planned - predictions are not always as  they seem. I think the OKC Thunder will definitely make the playoffs which is going to suck for that 9th and 10th seed who could easily be a 6th,7th or 8th seed in the East. I imagine these other teams will be on the outside looking in at the end of the season. Like everyone else we just have to see what happens and enjoy all the moments to come. This should be fun to watch.
