Stevie Wonder's Songs In The Key Of Life Tribute

It's about time. Stevie Wonder finally got a tribute, a star-studded tribute I might add. For all of the wonderful tunes, vibes and great memories his music has given us over the years, this whole celebration might have honestly been a bit overdue but who cares I liked it....Scratch that, I really liked it......OK, I loved it. At the end of the day this guy is probably my favorite artist ever but I just was not quite sure how today's living artists were going to perform his classics. They did not disappoint.

Beyonce took some heat this past week for Kanye West comments. I suppose you know what that means. Let's compare her to everybody else: "she doesn't do this,  she can't write,  she's over rat..." I will not finish. Her fans can be ruthless but you get the point. I think some people get bored Bey with her star power but what I saw was pretty normal. While performing Fingertips PT.2, we witnessed a world-class entertainer on the stage: dance, vocal range and command of the moment.

Ed Sheeran hopped in as they transitioned to Master Blaster Jammin tripled with a guy out of nowhere with a guitar in his hand performing Higher Ground. I imagine countless would like to see Beyonce perform like that but we still have to thank Gary Clark Jr and Ed for their maestro techniques.

Lady Gaga's version of I wish was interesting while Babyface and Ariana Grande gave a slowed-down Signed, Sealed, Delivered.  Neyo and Stevie's lovely daughter gave us a pretty sweet cover of  Isn't She Lovely. When Aisha sang "isn't he special" Mr. Wonder was probably close to heartfelt tears, "MY DAUGHTER DID THIS FOR ME."  A dope moment.

So let's talk Ed Sheeran. At merely 24, this dude is a baaaaaaaad man. He can be as good as he wants. His cover of "I was made to love her" was extremely outstanding, pardon me for saying so but  for a while I almost thought his acoustic version was better than....No! I won't go there. Whatever the mellow flavor, I loved it.

Andrea Bolecci cracked jokes before I Just Called To Say I Love You, John Legend excelled on piano as usual, The Band Perry was cool while and the Jill Scott, Janelle Monae and India Arie Trio killed As and demonstrated just how tough Mr. Wonders artistic repertoire is.

We were treated to an awesome finale when Man Wonder ascended the stage AT LAST. Mr. Stevie did his thing: harmonica, kept us grooving and jammin.  He went real on us with Spiritual Warfare and Spread Love - contradiction in terms. The show wound up with a montage of civil rights appreciation to the tune of Happy Birthday for Dr. MLK.

On a personal note, my Mother has had the privilege of meeting Mr. Wonder and attending his concerts. As for me, even though I am not of his generation I definitely feel great looking out for him and his artistry. His music will live on forever.
